Here's something to remind you of those cool winter days.
These are first grade projects. The one on the left is from Winter 2004. The other one is from Winter 2006. I guess the project has evolved over time! However, these two little guys have their share of battle scars. Mr. 2004 is missing an arm, and Mr. 2006 was photographed without his broken hockey stick (thanks to the creator of Mr. 2004).
StudioL has been rather quiet lately, because a lot has been happening around here (except, obviously, much blogging). I spent a good part of last week ransacking my house to cull out stuff to donate to the church garage sale. The garage sale was to raise money for a mission trip. I thought I could cover a couple of bases - help out the mission trip and declutter my house. Four SUV loads later, I'd donated quite a bit to help out the cause, but had hardly made a dent in in my house!
That was the humdrum part of the week. It did get much better though. I have been selected to be on the design team for Zsiage scrapbook products! I'm thrilled with this opportunity!
I'll leave you with a favorite picture. It's from the fun and games on the last day of school. I would have never been able to capture this shot with my old digital. I'm loving playing with that new digital Rebel.
People are starting to wonder. Audrey is threatening to let her toddler take crayons to the walls just so that there will be some Kids' Art on Friday. I better do something about it!
For the record, I have been trying to do something about it, however, between uncooperative children and uncooperative scanners (well, user incompetence might have had something to do with that one) it just hasn't happened. But, it will today!
I really wanted to get a better picture than the one I have for you. The child in question is my always happy little boy. He's my little artist who is happy as a clam when he's doing art and is always very proud to show it off. He loves to have his picture taken and has his face right in front of the lens every time the camera comes out. I just don't know what happened here.
This came home from school. The assignment was to create a portrait of themselves showing what they would look like when they got old. It looks like he'll be happy in his old age even if he wasn't in this picture!
Thankfully, Kelly and Shari were holding down the Kids' Art fort for me!

My pages in Debra's Alphabetica book are finished, and the book has been sent on to Becky. You can see pictures of this marvelous creation here and here. As nice as these pictures are, they are no substitute for seeing this lovely book in person. Debra has such a soft, pretty style.
Here's what I did to her book.
The left side came together fairly well. The right side was more problematic, but I think I managed to salvage it. At least I like it better than I did initially!
It isn't Friday, but it seems to be a lot harder to blog since said kids are home for the summer. So, Kids' Art is on Monday this week.
I thought this project was cute when it came home. It's two cats on a rug. Apparently the direction was to keep the design on the rug simple, but my 7-year old was giggling when he told me that he didn't want to keep it simple. Yes, he's my child. There is a ball of yarn on the rug. The thing dangling with the masking tape is a mouse. ;-)

The photo doesn't show this well, but the butterfly wings are curled, so the butterfly is dimensional. It was a serendipitous discovery. I had coated the piece with several coats of gel medium and set it on the counter to dry. I was fiddling with it while talking on the phone one day. After my conversation, I realized that I had curled the wings and they seemed pretty content to stay that way!
My children's art teacher does such fun projects with them. Can't you just imagine a line of clothing based on this design?

P.S. The two-for-one special isn't going to happen today. The little darlins couldn't find the plethora of bracelets they made over Spring Break!
Note: Geek Husband has fixed my computer issues. Here's the entry that I was trying to post earlier. Maybe not as emotionally laden as I'd led you to believe, but more so than most posts on this blog! I'm also adding some pics to my photo gallery that go along with this post.
Here's a picture from our trip. Hopefully, you'll think it's artsy. It evokes so many more emotions for me. They say you can't ever really go back home. The thing is home will never be the same. This picture shows the current state of my father's barn. I spent many hours there playing in the haystack when I was a child. For a while he even had a rope hanging from the roof that I could swing on. Yes, Tarzan on the ranch. Or should that be Tarzanza? However, all it took was the sight of a mouse scurrying underfoot to send me scurrying back home.
My father died almost ten years ago. My mother (at almost 77) does an amazing job of keeping the ranch going with help from my brother. It just isn't ever going to be the in the same condition my father kept it in when it was truly a working ranch. The barn will soon be beyond repair. There isn't really any reason to repair it. Or anyone with the time and inclination to do so. It's always sad to see an era end. Even more so when you were part of that era.
